چکیده

This article gives a brief overview of the major portable techniques: those based on optical spectroscopy techniques, including near-infrared (NIR), mid-infrared (mid-IR), and Raman spectroscopy; mass spectrometry (MS) systems, high-pressure MS (HPMS), gas chromatography–MS (GC–MS), ion mobility (IMS); elemental such as X-ray fluorescence (XRF) laser-induced breakdown (LIBS); emerging miniaturized techniques like nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). The above are all “conventional” spectroscopic reduced to rugged format, containing self-contained data systems. They provide specific actionable information their operators working with them outside laboratory—in field—and these instruments have well-defined value propositions. A recent development is availability low cost (<$100) multispectral sensors operating in visible NIR regions. enables be embedded into consumer products, smart “white goods” appliances, personal care, fitness even “wearables” products. In future, miniature spectrometers will ubiquitous—outside laboratory, your home pocket.

Shrinking spines

Text by Hema Bashyam [email protected] Skin-based immunity W hen skin cells are hit by a blast of UV light, they instruct dendritic cells (DCs) to suppress immunity system-wide, say Karin Loser, Stefan Beissert (University of Münster, Münster, Germany), and colleagues. UV has the unusual ability to cause immunosuppression by recruiting T regulatory cells (T regs). UV has thus been used t...

Orbital Shrinking

Symmetry plays an important role in optimization. The usual approach to cope with symmetry in discrete optimization is to try to eliminate it by introducing artificial symmetry-breaking conditions into the problem, and/or by using an ad-hoc search strategy. In this paper we argue that symmetry is instead a beneficial feature that we should preserve and exploit as much as possible, breaking it o...

Shrinking Trees

Tree-based models provide an alternative to linear models for classification and regression data. They are used primarily for exploratory analysis of complex data or as a diagnostic tool following a linear model analysis. They are also used as the end product in certain applications, such as speech recognition, medical diagnoses, and other instances where repeated fast classifications are requi...

A new monoclonal antibody to epithelial membrane antigen (EMA) E29. A comparison of its immunocytochemical reactivity with polyclonal anti-EMA antibodies and with another monoclonal antibody, HMFG-2. Summary Two polyclonal rabbit antibodies to epithelial membrane antogen (EMA), two mouse monoclonal antibodies (E29 and HMFG-2), and a "cocktail" of these two monoclonals have been compared using a...

n-Shrinking Neighborhoods

In this paper we give a motivation for the shrinking rate 1/ √ n: Let p0 and qn be the outlier probability under the ideal model, and some member of a neighborhood about this ideal model of radius rn, respectively. Assuming n i.i.d. observations, the critical rate of rn may be de ned such that the minimax test for outlier probability qn = p0 vs. qn > p0 has asymptotic error probabilities bounde...
